Judith-Anne Seery - Winner of the 2016 Tom Fitzsimon Award

The Tom Fitzsimon award was this year presented to Judith-Anne Seery, principal of Good Shepherd Catholic School, Springfield Lakes. Judith is a worthy recipient of the Tom Fitzsimon award and the association congratulates her on her dedication and commitment to principalship in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

In the lead up to the APPA National Conference in 2009, Judith was the National Convenor of the Conference Committee.  This significant role saw her convene a team to prepare, plan and support the National Primary Principals’ Association Conference held that year on the Gold Coast.  Judith immersed herself in the planning and preparation for the Conference with professionalism, wisdom and commitment; liaising with International speakers, delegates and conference management.  Throughout all of this, Judith remained committed to having the Conference focus on the child and supporting Principals in an ever-changing and demanding learning and teaching environment.  Her work over the years has seen her research and investigate a wide range of educational contemporary issues and consider how best to meld these into experiences for school leaders.  Judith has communicated extensively with Principals across the nation in her efforts to encourage Principals from other sectors; Government, Independent and Catholic, to learn together.

As a Principal committed to her own leadership learning and the learning and professional practice of her colleagues, Judith has additionally worked as Pastoral and Spirituality support person on the executive of BACPPA.  Judith has developed, planned and implemented retreats, liturgies and reflections on a wide range of themes and topics and has supported her colleagues in Catholic education with a sense of purpose and consideration.

In more recent years Judith has brought a wealth of her experience to establishing Good Shepherd Catholic School at Springfield Lakes.  Commencing in 2013 Good Shepherd’s motto, ‘Called by Name’, depicts a community where each individual is known by their baptismal name, and are known as an individual person who is respected and valued.   Congratulations Judith on being the recipient of the 2016 Tom Fitzsimon Award!
